Motor sailing down the Florida stretch of the ICW
Simply Sail is sailing North on another adventure! We will be open for business as soon as we return! Thank you so much for your continued support!
It's quite a transition from the undeveloped serene sections of the Georgia ICW to the developed and populous areas of the Florida coast! We crossed over to Florida in a cold misty rain and wondered what happened to the "Sunshine State"! We anchored for the night and woke up to find that the rain had ended and clear skies were forecast for the next several days. We continued south and arrived at the Bridge of Lions drawbridge in St Augustine. It was a thirty minute wait before the bridge opened again so we took advantage of the time to get the lines and bumpers situated for our night at the St Augustine Municipal Marina. This Marina is just inside the Atlantic Ocean with strong currents and narrow seaways to our slip. The dock staff was very friendly and helpful and Marcus docked Luckydog like a champ! We were told that collisions were not uncommon! The Marina is conveniently located at the beautiful historic district, with restaurants, coffee shops and bars close by. We enjoyed a fabulous seafood meal at Harry's, a very dog friendly restaurant with a gorgeous patio. Seaby and Skipper enjoyed lots of attention from the patrons and the staff! Before we cast the lines to continue our voyage south, we stocked up on more fresh produce, artisan bread and delicious French pastries from a quaint French bakery near the marina. We are currently motor sailing toward Daytona Beach and will anchor in an area south of the city later this afternoon. There is not a cloud in the sky and we anticipate another breathtaking sunset later!
